GPT Image evaluation method: image quality, edits and costs

A repeatable GPT Image review protocol for prompt fidelity, reference edits, text accuracy, output files and total task cost. No invented benchmark rankings.

Evaluate GPT Image with tasks that match your work. Record the actual model version, provider, inputs, settings and original outputs before comparing results. This page describes a testing method; it does not publish a controlled GPT Image benchmark or establish a winning model.

Separate examples from evidence

Editorial illustrations demonstrate a visual idea. The public prompt library contains creative references and authored format demonstrations. These do not establish which service model produced an image.

Build a representative task set

Use permitted reference images and written acceptance criteria. Include a product scene, a portrait edit, a photo-to-3D character concept, a Chinese or bilingual poster, and a layout for the intended publishing format. Define the details that must remain unchanged, including identity, product shape, exact text and safe margins.

Run repeated trials rather than selecting only the most attractive result. Keep failed tasks, rejected outputs and manual revisions in the record. Use the same brief and inputs across models; document any settings that cannot be matched.

Review the original outputs

  • Prompt fidelity: subject, composition, lighting and requested exclusions.
  • Reference fidelity: identity, object shape, materials and details to preserve.
  • Text: exact characters, punctuation, dates, line breaks and reading order.
  • Image integrity: anatomy, edges, duplicated objects and unintended artifacts.
  • Delivery: dimensions, crop, file access and suitability for the intended use.

Inspect the full-size file. Proofread final lettering and review permission to use every reference. A 3D-style image is a two-dimensional concept unless a separate workflow provides an actual 3D file.

Record cost and uncertainty

Capture the quote, charged site credits, output count, failures, retries and any returned credits. Site credits are distinct from a provider's dollar prices. Record total time to an accepted result, including polling and editing; do not present that as model inference speed.

Keep sanitized task identifiers and remove credentials, account details and private images from public reports. Do not estimate reliability or announce a universal winner from a single task. Publish the method, date, sample size and known differences alongside any future results.

Check primary sources

Consult the generation guide and your provider's current request schema for model identity, supported inputs and availability. The GPT Image model guide explains task-based selection; pricing and the generator show this site's current purchasing and request terms.
